Teaching
A pendulum hooks you by provoking a reaction — alarm, outrage, flattery, guilt. Each reaction is an induced transition: you follow the push and are dragged onto a victim life line. Once there, the script changes against you, confirming the pendulum's frame. The only winning move is to refuse the first reaction, not to win the argument. Walking past without accepting the invitation starves the structure; engaging, even in protest, feeds it.
Practice · 4 min
When stirred by someone else's urgency or provocation today, delay your response by three breaths. Ask inwardly whose script you are about to enter before answering.
Evening reflection
Which hook do you reliably bite, and how does the story end after you bite?
